Welcome to Open Hack Day NYC!

We’re very happy that you are here with us for Yahoo!’s ninth Open Hack event – our first ever in New York City.

As you can see, this is a two-part event. On Friday, you’ll be able to explore an array of Yahoo! (and non-Yahoo!) developer products and topics. Learn about building an app for the Yahoo! homepage, using YQL to mashup disparate data sets, displaying your user activity on Yahoo! via Updates, and writing widgets for Internet-enabled TVs. We have sessions on YUI 3.0, our flickr API, and BOSS, our search API. There are terrific general sessions on JavaScript and PHP. And, we have a number of really cool panel conversations scheduled in the conference track titled “Innovation on the Open Web.”

On Friday/Saturday, we encourage you to join the fray by participating in our 24-hour hack contest. In our experience, the success of Hack Day depends on you – it’s your passion, creativity, and community spirit that creates an environment where anything can happen – and often does. From the blogging purse created by Black Box Nation and Diana Eng in 2006, to a freak lightning storm and downpour inside London’s Alexandra Palace in 2007, from the launch of Slideshare Mobile in the aftermath of a Bangalore Hack day win to Puff hacking in Brazil in 2008 (new uses for purple beanbags) to a spontaneous London iPhone Orchestra Performance last May –  Hack Days are about learning from each other and exchanging new and unexpected ideas.

We welcome all developers – inside and outside of Yahoo! – to play with our APIs and platforms, and we invite you to build applications that take advantage of the vast data, the enormous scale, and the open infrastructure that Yahoo! provides.

The Yahoo! Developer Network is dedicated to keeping Yahoo! true to its developer roots, and we’re fortunate to work with developers like you from all over the world. Again, welcome to OHD NYC!

Yahoo! Developer Network is headed to New York City for the first time for our 9th Open Hack Day.  Join us at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, in the heart of Times Square, for two days of hack goodness. Please be sure to register at icanhaz.com/yahoohacknyc as space is limited.  Register Here

At the Friday conference, we’ll introduce the latest developer tools and services from Yahoo!. A full day of tech talks and hands-on workshops will cover a range of technologies from Yahoo! and beyond.

Our 24-hour Hack Day kicks off Friday afternoon. The hack space is open all night and experts will be on hand to answer questions. Bring yourself. Bring an idea. Bring your devices. Find a team to work with. On Saturday afternoon, hackers will demo their hacks in the plush Hudson Theater for a chance at glory and some cool prizes.
